These Poundland oval baking dishes aren’t on their website, but I spotted them and my immediate thought was that they would be the right size for a “serves one” portion of a lot of meals – it also looked like they’d fit inside my 3.5 litre slow cooker, so could be used in that – and, fit inside my mini oven! At just £1, I took a chance and bought one.
Once I got it home I tried it out and it did fit into my 3.5 litre oval slow cooker and it fitted into my mini oven. It turned out to be the perfect size, just what I was looking for! So I’ve just popped back to buy another one. I’d hoped for a different colour as I don’t like things to match … but they seem to only have three colours, so I bought a second dark blue one. The colours in my local Poundland were:
- Dark blue
- Pale yellow
- Pale grey.
These ceramic oval baking dishes are not on the Poundland website at all.
Oven Dish Sizes
The rough internal measurements are:
- 16cm long
- 11½cm wide
- 4½cm deep.
This is a great sized baking dish for a hearty portion for one of something like a cottage pie, shepherd’s pie or fish pie – or a “serves 2” sized baking dish if you’re going to be having something on the side! They could be used as a great good sized portion for one person of curry/rice. I won’t just be using these as baking dishes, but eating dishes! (Yes, common, I know.)
At just £1 I am well pleased with these. It’s ovenware, so fine for a regular oven, it can be used in a slow cooker too and, of course in mini ovens. I’d not chance it in the freezer under any circumstances though. I have tried it a few times in the microwave oven for 2-3 minute and so far they didn’t break… so it’s probably suitable for microwave ovens too. At £1 you can afford to take a chance.
