I’ve tried other Aldi frozen burgers, so this month it was time to try the Oakhurst 100% beef quarter pounders. Sold in a box of four, these cost me £1.69, which is a price of 42p per burger. That’s good value!
In the past I’ve tried the Aldi Lamb Burgers and their Jalapeno Burgers, both also frozen burger products int he same part of the freezer section and about the same price. They were nice enough, but I’d left the beef burgers until last as the others appeared more exciting and interesting to me. But I’m glad I got round to these.
Cook Frozen Burgers:
The official cooking instructions say they should be grilled for 14-16 minutes, turning half way through, or fried in a frying pan for 12-14 minutes in a tablespoon of oil, turning frequently. The pack recommends that if you are BBQing these burgers you should cook them first by frying or grilling before putting them onto the BBQ – so you might like to try my own microwave way of cooking burgers to speed up your BBQ burgers as it’s much quicker.
The pack says: Ensure that the product is thoroughly checked, no pink meat remains and the juices run clear. Do not reheat. Not suitable for microwave cooking.
I microwave cook burgers and these were no different – in a lidded microwave safe dish I microwaved one frozen burger for 2 minutes on high power (800 watts), then turned it over and microwaved it for a further minute. I then tend to drain off the excess fat before turning the burger and microwaving it for one more minute. While cooking burgers I’ll also tend to let the burger rest between microwave blasts, often because I’m busy sorting something else out and I figure “1-2 minutes resting time will probably do that some good”.
Burger Ingredients and Nutrition:
The ingredients panel says these are 99% British Beef burgers, with salt, maltodextrin, dextrose, sugar, pepper, spice extracts (including celery), onion extract and flavouring.
For nutrition, each burger, grilled is about 257 calories and one burger contains 18 grams of fat, 0.6 grams of carbohydrate, 24 grams of protein and 0.70 grams of salt.
Burger Review:
These burgers are really meaty and moist – and have a definite “peppery” taste.
Highly recommended!
I’ll eat these with chips and peas or beans, and a couple will go into toasted bread rolls.
Menu Cost 50p:
If you stick one of these burgers in a breaded roll, that’s a 50p dinner! The burger costs 42p, leaving you 8p for the bread roll.
