It takes just 3 minutes to enjoy a microwave naan pizza! As a quick late night snack, or an early lunch, it’s a simple “go to” and I always have naan bread in the house for those times when I’m hungry and can’t face cooking. Maybe it’s just for “nibbles”, or just something that tastes great and doesn’t take long.
I always have vacuum-packed naan breads in the house, typically I’ll grab the Garlic & Coriander Naan Bread at Aldi when I’m in the shop, usually two packs. But, while I’m out and about in other shops I’ll keep my eye out for vacuum-packed naan. They have a long shelf-life, probably 2 months or so – but, even after the date I still eat them, all that happens is the vacuum packing gets a bit tighter 🙂
Just 4 Ingredients:
- 1 naan bread. Any brand, any make, any flavour.
- Some cheese – any sort you’ve got. Sliced or grated.
- Heinz Jalapeno Ketchup – or any chilli/ketchup you can get your hands on
- 1 teaspoon oregano (optional, sometimes I don’t bother!)
Microwave Method:
- Lay the naan bread on a microwave safe plate – sometimes I use my microwave splatter guard and a sheet of kitchen towel as that’s the right size and is flat.
- Squirt the jalapeno ketchup over the naan bread.
- Sprinkle the oregano over the naan and ketchup.
- Spread your cheese over the naan bread.
- Microwave on high power for 1 minute. Check if the cheese has melted – if not, microwave again for 30 seconds, or until the cheese has melted.
Cut and eat!
Not Suitable For Microwave Heating!
If you read the packaging of the naan bread, many will have advice/a warning:
This does not mean it’s dangerous – it’s just the manufacturer is giving information for their product to taste the best it can. It won’t explode, it won’t be unsafe – it’ll just be a very soft naan bread and that isn’t what a lot of people might be wanting.
There is nothing to prevent a naan bread being heated in the microwave except it won’t be dry/bread-like, but will be softer. It’s wholly safe to eat, just not how the manufacturer would prefer you to consume their product.
Budget Busting Pizza Cost:
This 4 ingredient microwave naan pizza is quite cheap 🙂
- A pack of two Bilash Garlic & Coriander naan breads at Aldi are 59p/pack, 30p each.
- The cheese is probably 30p worth. The chilli ketchup is pennies.
This is definitely a Meal Under £1 – well under £1.
Can You Toast or Bake Naan Pizza?
The method works just as well in an oven, or under a grill, in a toaster oven or even in a dry frying pan on the hob on a medium heat (best if you’ve got a lid on to aid cheese melting).
In fact, making a naan pizza by any other method is most likely going to give you a better end result – but if you just want a quick/easy snack, with the minimum of time/effort or fuel cost – then it makes sense to use the microwave!
Under the grill is the best way, using the oven’s too long winded/pricey for electricity; a dry frying pan will work well. But the microwave simply does it much faster 🙂 And that’s a Food Cheat!
