Microwave Neeps & Tatties in Minutes
|You can microwave neeps and tatties in minutes and with the minimum of prep effort and time at all. They are simply swede and potatoes, so it’s perfectly possible to cook these in the microwave from raw, or to reheat, in minutes and reduce steam and condensation in the kitchen into the bargain.
Whether you serve neeps and tatties smoothly mashed or chunky is a preference each of us builds up over the years. Personally I like my neeps quite chunky. I microwave neeps and tatties because there’s “nothing special” or different about these to any other time I cook swede and potatoes.
Pin It: Microwave Neeps & Tatties Recipe
- Microwave Neeps: You can use the singing swede method of cooking the neeps if you’re using a whole swede. If you’re cooking swede portions then the method’s similar. How long they take to cook depends on the quantity and power of your microwave, but it’s quicker and less fussy than boiling the swede.
- Microwave Tatties: I use a microwave steamer to cook potatoes. I then add in any butter/salt/pepper etc that I wish to add and mash them. These take about 10-15 minutes, quantity depending.
And that’s it. There is no secret to microwave cooking neeps and tatties, you just cook them how you’d usually do it!
Cook Ahead:
I’ll typically cook neeps and tatties 1-3 days before they’re needed and store in a plastic takeaway box in the fridge. To reheat in the microwave I just loosen the lid and microwave on high power for 2-3 minutes (stirring half way) until they’re piping hot!.
