You can make fried eggs in the microwave if you want a quick and clean way to produce a fat-free egg. All you need is a small microwave safe dish, small saucer, or small cup and a cover/lid for it – which can be kitchen paper or cling film.
I often use my microwave omelette maker to produce two fat free fried eggs – two cooked side by side, then cut in half to slide onto two
separate muffins or toast, gives me a triangular shaped egg, but it all tastes the same!
To make fat free fried eggs in the microwave just:
- Add a little water (a few drops) into a microwave omelette maker (or even a tiny microwaveable dish)
- Crack your egg/s into the dish and prick the white and the yolk with a sharp point (to prevent the egg from exploding).
- Cover and microwave on half power for an initial minute or so, then in short bursts of 15-20 seconds apart.
What you will need to do is keep a close eye on your egg and perfect your technique and the timings in the first 2-3 attempts. Once you’ve perfected these fat free fried eggs you might never go back! Perfect for a filling diet breakfast!
Of course, there’s no brown crispy base like you’d get in a frying pan, but it’s a much quicker and cleaner way to produce an egg.
You can also try using a few drops of oil instead of water, but this isn’t a fat free fried egg then!
If you want your eggs to have a round shape, then try using a different shape of dish – a small/round microwave safe dish, with a cover, would work. You just need to try 2-3 times to really perfect the egg you want.
I make fried eggs in the microwave to place in a breakfast muffin, or to eat as fried egg and beans on toasted muffins.
